The chief minister of Gibraltar has urged the people of the UK to back his colony's fight for the right to stay British.
Mr Peter Caruana said he planned to make a number of appeals in Britain in the coming weeks in the hope of heading off what he sees as a betrayal of Gibraltar by the Foreign Office.
His campaign to win over British opinion began with a speech at Cambridge University.
Mr Caruana said he planned a similar speech at Oxford University and intended to visit various other parts of Britain to explain why Gilbraltar must have the right to decide its own future.
Last month the Gibraltar government condemned British plans to sign an agreement with Spain granting joint sovereignty of the Rock as profoundly undemocratic.
Gibraltan ministers condemned the idea to end Gibraltar's 298-year-old status as a British colony.
Spanish and British officials say they hope that an agreement on co-sovereignty of Gibraltar would be concluded by the end of the summer.
