Cannabis resin worth approximately €10.5 million was seized at a warehouse near the Naas Road in Dublin yesterday.

The discovery of some 1.5 tonnes of the drug makes the haul one of the biggest intercepted in the State in recent years. The drugs were shipped in to Dublin Port from Spain, and were packed in boxes labelled "notepads" and loaded on to pallets.

A Garda spokesman said no arrests had been made and the investigation was ongoing.

The seizure was made during a joint operation involving the Garda National Drugs Unit and Customs and Excise officers.

It is one of a series of major drug seizures made in the State in recent months, and the third multimillion cannabis find since August.

Earlier this month, cannabis resin with an estimated street value of €7 million was seized in Dublin after a large-scale cross-Border operation involving gardaí and Customs officers.

In August, gardaí alos discovered €10 million worth of cannabis at Knockirr, Co Kildare.
