Gardaí seek owners for stolen tools

Gardaí in Galway have recovered a stolen van and tools worth an estimated €65,000

Gardaí in Galway have recovered a stolen van and tools worth an estimated €65,000.  They are now seeking to reunite the tools with their owners.

Two men are being held at Ballinasloe Garda station after gardaí investigating the theft of a 4x4 vehicle from the Dublin area in March intercepted the vehicle at a checkpoint in the Caltra area at about 4pm yesterday.

Both men in their mid 20s. They are detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, a Garda statement said.

"As part of a follow-up operation gardaí carried out a number of searches of houses in the Ballinasloe and Loughrea areas. In the course of the searches gardai recovered a significant number of tools
and a Mercedes van believed to have been stolen previously."

Gardaí estimate the van is worth €25,000, the 4X4 vehicle €30,000 and the tools €10,000.

The recovered tools are believed to be have been stolen in the west of Ireland over the last couple of months.  A full list will be published on the Garda website at 10am tomorrow.
