The theft of letters from shop and bar signs in Killarney, Co Kerry, has now led to a full Garda investigation.
The thefts have occurred in the early hours of the morning, with premises in the centre of the busy town being targeted.
So far the street burglar, thought to operate alone, has displayed a penchant for vowels, with a special fondness for the first letter of the alphabet.
So far, three As have gone missing, while F, C and E have also interested the thief.
