Gardai have released two people arrested yesterday in connection with Friday's attempted armed robbery at a shopping centre in Balbriggan.

A 31-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man were arrested earlier yesterday in the Balbriggan area, and were detained under Section 30, Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions in this matter.

The attempted robbery at Dunnes Stores in the Castlemill Shopping Centre, Balbriggan, took place early eysterday morning.

Two men in dark-coloured boiler suits tried to enter the store while staff were loading cash into an ATM machine.

A number of shots were fired into the glass doors, with what gardai believe was a sawn off shotgun.

A staff member was taken to hospital to treat a minor facial wound.
