A 30-year-old man was released by gardai in Dundalk yesterday evening following questioning in relation to the death of a man in the Co Louth town.

Gardai in Dundalk said a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions and that no one else is being sought in connection with the death.

The 59-year-old victim was a local man who has been identified but his name is being withheld until all relatives have been informed. He appears to have died from head injuries received in the assault.

His body was found on Patrick Street at 12.35 a.m. It is believed he was assaulted a short time beforehand.

The body was examined by the Deputy State Pathologist at the scene yesterday afternoon.

The Dundalk man arrested in connection with the incident was released at 7.30 p.m. yesterday.
