Gardaí are searching for three men after an armed raid on a Credit Union in Portarlington, Co Laois.

Gardaí are searching for three men after an armed raid on a Credit Union in Portarlington, Co Laois.

Two men, armed with a handgun and a hammer, entered the credit union branch at 4.30pm yesterday afternoon and escaped with a large sum of money.

They held three staff and four customers before making their escape in a car driven by a third man. The car was found in a field on the outskirts of Portarlington at 11am this morning and is now being technically examined.

Gardaí say one of the men was six feet in height and was wearing a yellow fluorescent jacket with a grey hooded top pulled over his face.

The second man was five foot, eight inches in height and was wearing blue jeans with a black hooded top pulled over his face. Both men were wearing gloves and spoke with Dublin accents.
