Arts festival organisers in Galway are considering special measures for the Big Day Out concert planned for July, because it will coincide with the second day of the Garda's industrial action. The concert, headlined by Pulp, is scheduled for July 11th, during the Galway Arts Festival. With an expected crowd of up to 20,000 people attending the one-day concert there would normally be a strong Garda presence.

"It's a potential headache we could do without," said the Arts Festival manager, Mr Fergal McGrath. "We have a good working relationship with the gardai here and it's been particularly productive in recent years. So we are confident of coming to some agreement."
