The funeral will take place today of a 14-year-old boy who died at Cork University Hospital from injuries he sustained in an assault.

Brian Rossiter of Clonmel, Co Tipperary, collapsed last Wednesday and was brought to a local hospital. He was then transferred to Cork University Hospital where he died two days later.

The teenager became ill while detained at Clonmel Garda station for a minor public order offence. Gardaí believe he was assaulted in Cashel Street, Clonmel, shortly after 12.30 a.m on September 9th. He did show any signs of pain until 48 hours later, when his condition deteriorated rapidly.

A post-mortem by the deputy state pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, found the teenager's death was the result of a head injury.
