Three men were remanded in custody with consent to bail and a fourth was refused bail when they appeared at a special sitting of Fermoy District Court last night on two charges of illegally possessing firearms at Mitchelstown, Co Cork, on Monday.

The three who were granted bail were Mr Sean Kind (40), of St Joseph's Terrace, Rockenham, Passage West, Co Cork; Mr Walter Nagle (23), of Avoncore Estate, Midleton, Co Cork; and Mr Michael Nugent (26), of Meadow Park Lawn, Ballyvolane, Cork. The fourth, Mr Kieran Kiely (25), Mill Road, Youghal, was refused bail because the court was not satisfied with the address given.

Judge Michael Patwell was told that the four were arrested at Cahir Hill, Ballinwillin, Mitchelstown, Co Cork, on Monday night.

At last night's sitting they were charged with possessing arms and ammunition without a firearms certificate and of possession of guns in circumstances which could reasonably be taken not to be for lawful use.
