Two 17-year-olds killed in a crash in Co Tipperary overnight have been named by gardaí this afternoon. Four people have died in crashes since yesterday afternoon.
The collision, involving a car and a four-wheel-drive vehicle, happened at Borrisbeg, Templemore, just after midnight.
David Mc Namara from Knocka, Drom, Co Tipperary was driving the car and died after being taken to Limerick Regional Hospital. Colm Tierney, from Erril, Portlaois, Co Laois, who was a passenger in the car, died at the scene.
The driver and female passenger of the four-wheel-drive vehicle were not seriously injured.
Another 17-year-old was killed in crash in south Dublin overnight. Gardaí in Shankill are appealing for witnesses to the single-vehicle crash on the Shanganagh Road at 2.30am.
The youth was taken to Loughlinstown Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Earlier yesterday, a 31-year-old cyclist died when her bike was involved in a collision with a lorry in Limerick.
Gardaí in Henry Street are investigating the crash, which happened at 4.05pm on Plassey Park Road.
The cyclist was struck when the truck was turning off the main road. The woman was taken to St Johns Hospital, Limerick where she was pronounced dead.
The latest deaths bring to 296 the number of people killed on the State's roads so far this year, compared to 311 for the same period last year. Seventeen people have been killed on the roads so far in October.
