Egyptian officials have blamed fog for a crash that killed at least 29 people and injured 16 in a multi-vehicle road crash outside Cairo today.
The collisions happened after a bus and a minibus hit each other southeast of Cairo, causing a truck carrying bricks to overturn as the driver tried to avoid them.
At least 10 other vehicles then crashed as they could not see the original incident due to fog. Many of the dead were killed after they left their vehicles to check for damage, police said.
Reckless driving, lax traffic rules and poor road conditions contribute to many road crashes in Egypt. There have also been fatal road and rail crashes in recent years.
