A daily flight on a route from George Best Belfast City Airport to Galway was announced today by low-cost airline Flybe today.

The company also announced two flights form the Belfast airport to Robin Hood Airport in Doncaster. Both service are due to begin on October 29th.

The airline said it was consolidating its position as the carrier offering the highest number of destinations out of the airport — 14 with the new routes.

Andrea Hayes of Flybe said the company was focused on the development of "pan regional" connection.

She said the link with Robin Hood Airport offered easy access to the cities of Doncaster, Sheffield, Nottingham, Hull, York and Lincoln and was an attractive alternative to East Midlands Airport.

The Galway service would provide the first air link from Belfast — offering a 40- minute flight against a five hour drive.

"We see Galway as having considerable potential and in addition to our services to Belfast we are also announcing a further route from Galway to Birmingham," she said.

Tickets for both new services went on sales today with a lead in one-way fare, including taxes and charges of stg£24.99 (€36.20) to Galway and £19.99 (€28.95) to Doncaster.
