Five people remained in hospital last night, two of them in a "critical" condition while another was described as "serious", following Sunday's three-car crash on Dublin's M50.
Following a Garda appeal for witnesses, a number of people have spoken of a car rapidly overtaking on the southbound carriageway just south of the Finglas exit. It careered across the motorway and flipped into the air, striking one car, landing on another and eventually coming to rest on its side on the hard shoulder of the northbound carriageway.
Seven people were injured, among them two women and two young teenagers whose Nissan Almera was badly crushed in the crash. Two men were injured in a black Toyota Camry. Another woman driver of a Toyota Yaris was also injured.
Last night, a spokeswoman for Beaumont Hospital said one patient - whom gardaí said was a young woman - was in a critical condition.
A spokeswoman for James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown said one man was in a serious condition, while a boy was described as stable. A spokeswoman for the Mater Hospital said one patient from the crash remained in a critical but stable condition while a second was stable.
