Five Police Service of Northern Ireland officers were injured following an attack by a crowd of more than 100 people in west Belfast last night.

Trouble flared when officers went into the Falls Park to recover a stolen car which had been abandoned there.

There the officers came under attack from a large crowd of youths who threw missiles at their landrovers and tried to gain access to the vehicles.

Five officers were taken to hospital. One received stitches to his face. A man in his twenties has been arrested in connection with the incident.
