Gardaí in Tallaght investigating the murder of grandmother Joan Casey at her home earlier this month arrested five people for questioning early yesterday morning.

Four men in their 20s and a 31-year-old woman were arrested at their homes in the Tallaght area yesterday morning in connection with the fatal shooting of Mrs Casey.

The arrests were made between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. The five are being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act and can be held for up to 72 hours.

They are being held in Tallaght, Terenure and Crumlin Garda stations.

Mrs Casey (64) was in bed when two armed and masked men broke into her house in Avonbeg Park, Tallaght, on April 3rd.

The mother of five was shot when she got out of bed to investigate noises. Her husband and brother were also in the house at the time.

A team of some 40 detectives continues to investigate the murder of the Tallaght grandmother.

Gardaí are satisfied that none of the three people in the house was the intended target of the intruders.

According to a Garda spokesperson, the investigating team is following a number of lines of inquiry.
