A British-registered Spanish fishing vessel was being escorted into Killybegs, Co Donegal, last night, following a fire on board the ship early yesterday morning.

No injuries were reported among the 16 crew on board, according to the Irish Coast Guard, and the fire was contained several hours after it broke out on the Norte some 10 miles west of Erris Head, Co Mayo.

The Achill lifeboat was tasked and remained with the vessel, and was subsequently relieved by the Ballyglass lifeboat.

It was due to assist the vessel into Killybegs harbour at about 8 p.m.
