Berlin - The German Foreign Minister, Mr Joschka Fischer, apologised for his militant past yesterday after a confession that he was a street-fighter in 1970s student riots provoked calls for his resignation.
While the Green Party politician has never hidden his role in the radical political movement that sprang from the 1968 student protests, his frank admissions published by the news magazine Stern on Wednesday unnerved even party allies.
