Three fire crews were attacked in Dublin last night while trying to extinguish separate fires.
Crews from Finglas and Phibsborough were called to attend two separate fires in Ballymun, in the north of the city, about 7.00pm.
They were attacked with stones by a gang of youths when they arrived.
Another crew from Tallaght were attending a fire in Ballyfermot in west Dublin when they were hit by stones.
There were no injuries to the firefighters but fire engines were damaged.
A spokesman for Dublin Fire Brigade said attacks on emergency services were common.
"It happens every week but it's particularly bad in the run up to Halloween," he said. "The crews will stop to check a bonfire and then they'll get stoned."
Roisin Shortall, Labour TD for Dublin North-West, condemned the attacks.
"We need to protect and respect the hard working men and women of the fire service and indeed all emergency services. Their job is to help people and any attempt to impede that work is disgraceful," she said.
Gardaí said they will put in place locally a plan to deal with the challenge of Halloween.
