The Fine Gael Parliamentary Party has decided to set up a committee to examine "how financial resources can best be applied in the 1997 Budget to reduce the tax burden on the PAYE sector and small businesses".

The parliamentary party, chairman, Mr Phil Hogan, said yesterday the committee would report before the end of July. The report would form the basis of a Fine Gael strategy and input into next year's budget.
