Fine Gael remains without a leader this evening following the resignation of Michael Noonan earlier today.

Fine Gael remains without a leader this evening following the resignation of Michael Noonan earlier today.

Meeting in the City West Hotel this afternoon, the party failed to agree on a single unified candidate to lead the party and has promised to fill the leadership by election next Wednesday, the 6th of June.

The City West Hotel talks lasted two days and no formal nominations have been submitted to date. Several members have stated an interest in the leadership post.

Kilkenny-Carlow TD, Phil Hogan was the first to state an interest in the job and Dublin North Central TD Richard Bruton has also announced his interest. Enda Kenny, TD for Mayo is also expected to put his name forward. The election will take place next Wednesday
