Talks in the dispute at Irish Ferries are to begin on Monday between management and SIPTU, which represents the marine officers. But there are no plans for talks with the Seamen's Union of Ireland, which represents ratings, catering and other staff. Irish Ferries wants to lay off 400 employees during the winter season; employees say their earnings and pension entitlements will be damaged by the layoffs.
