The RUC and British army were today resuming the search for a light aircraft which reportedly crashed.

A full-scale alert was sparked last night when a man told police he saw heavy smoke and flames on the side of the Benaughlin mountain near Kinawley in Co Fermanagh.

Army helicopters, ambulance and fire crews with heat-seeking equipment also took part in the search.

But nothing was found by the time the search was called off for the night.

An RUC spokeswoman said: "At the moment all aircraft in the area have been accounted for."
