This is no easy ride, but if you are willing to acquire the taste or are already a fan of racing sims, F1 World Grand Prix could be right up your street. It is based on the 1997 Formula One grand prix season and all the drivers for that season are available for selection with the exception of Jacques Villeneuve who, for some unknown reason, is faceless. Voiceover is by an anonymous Scottish voice keeps you up to speed. There are four modes of gameplay including Challenge, Time Trial and, perhaps the most fun of all, Two-Player. If, however, you select "97 Events", the scenario will be the same as it was at the same event last year. This means for instance the weather conditions and retirements from each race are mimicked. While F1 is difficult enough to master in rookie mode you will be given all the help you need with automatic gear change and braking and steering assistance. This is ideal preparation for the real challenge ahead. F1 World Grand Prix brings the Nintendo 64 right up to date as far as racing sims go and should provide for some very speedy entertainment. It's about time!
