A Co Tyrone farmer, whose lands straddle the Border, has been under threat since his brother, a member of the former Ulster Defence Regiment, was shot dead, a court heard yesterday.

Cookstown Magistrates Court was told that Mr Joseph David Reid (63), Tannaghlane, Caledon, moved a number of cattle from his land in the Republic to his land in the North so that he could manage them better. But Mr Reid failed to obtain prior permission from the North's Department of Agriculture and he was fined £300.

The court heard Mr Reid's brother was shot at Glaslough, Co Monaghan, in 1977, and since then Mr Reid could not go there, as he was under threat.
