The British authorities are seeking the extradition of a 39-year-old Co Tipperary man on charges including that he allegedly stole hundreds of lottery scratch cards there.

Yesterday the High Court in Dublin was informed that the extradition was being sought of Aidan O’Dwyer, who is wanted on theft charges dating back to 2009.

Mr O’Dwyer is alleged to have stolen some £4,400, along with 300 £1 scratch cards from his employer at a one-stop post office in East Sussex in the south of England.

A warrant seeking Mr O’Dwyer’s arrest was issued after he left the jurisdiction.

Yesterday at the High Court Det Garda Dermot Fitzgerald told Mr Justice Gerard Hogan that on Monday he had arrested Mr O’Dwyer at his residence at Kilnamanagh Court, Clonoulty, Cashel, Co Tipperary, on foot of a European arrest warrant that had been endorsed by the High Court last November.

Mr Justice Hogan, after outlining to Mr O’Dwyer his rights to legal representation or to consent to being returned to the UK, remanded him in custody with consent to bail, the matter being returnable to the High Court in early June.
