Fresh troops are being drafted into Northern Ireland as the security forces fear violence at Drumcree and during the marching season.

The British army confirmed yesterday that at least 1,300 troops under the control of the GOC Northern Ireland, but currently based in Britain, were being returned to the North by the end of the month.

The reinforcements will bring numbers to around 17,000.
