Kuala Lumpur - Opposition leaders denounced Malaysia's former police chief for beating up ousted deputy prime minister, Mr Anwar Ibrahim, last year as they staged the biggest antigovernment rally in the capital in months.

The two-hour rally in the northern suburbs of Kuala Lumpur came only hours after the former inspector general of police, Mr Abdul Rahim Noor, admitted through a lawyer that he was responsible for the attack.
