History has been made in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court with the first live videolink transmission of evidence from the US.
Dr David Rea, speaking from North Carolina, told the jury in a motoring case that he was on duty at James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown on the night that three road traffic victims were brought in.
Dr Rea said there was no spontaneous breathing, no heart rate and the pupils of one of the men were dilated. He was pronounced dead at 6.10 a.m. after 25 minutes of attempts to resuscitate him.
He said he treated a second victim who identified himself as the driver of the car. He had multiple superficial lacerations but was fully alert and conscious.
Mr Paul Kelly, aged 29, of Pinebrook Heights, Mulhuddart, Co Dublin, denies dangerous driving causing the death of Mr Gavin Markey on March 28th, 1999. The trial continues before Judge Patrick McCartan and a jury.
