European stock markets were broadly higher this morning as equity traders around the globe continued to take their lead from Wall Street.
Shares on Wall Street on Friday bounced back from five-year low points reached earlier in the week.
Across the 12-nation euro zone the Euro Stoxx 50 index rose 2.0 per cent to 2,587.3 points.
In New York, the Dow Jones closed 1.0 per cent higher on Friday after yet another volatile session, and the tech-rich Nasdaq composite climbed 1.8 per cent.
US stocks were expected to open firmer when trading commenced later. That helped lift confidence in Asia, where stocks climbed 0.8 per cent in Tokyo and 1.6 per cent in Hong Kong earlier.
In Europe, the British FTSE 100 index of leading shares rose 1.2 per cent to 4,064.2 points, the German DAX 30 climbed 2.3 per cent to 3,662.7 points and the French CAC 40 index went up 2 per cent to 3,236.2 points.
