The EU voiced "deep regret" on the exclusion of reformist candidates from Iran's parliamentary elections, but it drew no conclusion for talks with Iran on closer trade ties.
The Council (of EU foreign ministers) expressed its deep regret and disappointment that large numbers of candidates were prevented from standing in this year's parliamentary elections...making a genuine democratic choice by the Iranian people impossible," the draft, obtained by Reuters, said.
