Gardaí have arrested eight people as part of an ongoing investigation into crack cocaine dealing in Dublin's inner city.

Gardaí have arrested eight people as part of an ongoing investigation into crack cocaine dealing in Dublin's inner city.

The eight people, all Nigerian nationals, were arrested during raids by Gardai from North Central Drug Unit, the Garda National Drugs Unit and the Garda National Immigration Bureau in the Moore Street and Parnell Street areas.

Five have been charged and have appeared in court charged with offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Three others are still in custody in north Dublin Garda stations and are being questioned under the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

A Garda spokeswoman said a quantity of electrical goods, believed to be stolen, were also seized.

Four other people were arrested for suspected immigration offences.

The arrests were part of Operation Plaza, which has been targeting drug dealers since February.
