How much waste we create.

How much waste we create.

• The boxes of the six million Easter eggs consumed this year would stretch to more than 900km (560 miles), reaching all the way from Dublin to Paris

• If laid out flat, the card and paper packaging waste would cover an area 10 times the size of St Stephen's Green

• Irish households will eat almost one million kilograms of chocolate (2.2 million lbs) over the Easter period. This is the equivalent of six Olympic-sized swimming pools

• 490,000 kilos of used Easter eggs packaging will be generated

• 15 million beverage cans and one million wine bottles will be discarded

• In total, households will generate more than 42,000 tonnes of used packaging over Easter

• Last year only 40 per cent of it was recycled.
