THE AVERAGE DIT student is a Fianna Fail supporter, drinks lager, is probably Catholic and has enjoyed the odd puff on a funny cigarette, according to a students' union survey.

The heart of DIT students union supremo Colin Joyce has no doubt been gladdened by the revelation that 41 per cent of students polled plan to vote Fianna Fail. The survey, which appears to have been taken shortly after a cumann meeting, showed the Greens coming second (12 per cent) and Fine Gael and Labour getting 11 per cent each.

Some 370 students - from every year and faculty in the DIT were surveyed. Almost 65 per cent said they had tried or used illegal drugs - though only 18 per cent had tried ecstasy - and 81 per cent said that they identified with a particular religion.

Finally, 97 per cent of respondents said they drank alcohol, with lager the tipple of choice for almost 69 per cent and alcoholic lemonade attracting 22.8 per cent.
