SOME places are still available on the advanced fine arts course being run by the Irish Auctioneers & Valuers Institute which begins on February 26th. The course, which will cover Irish art, silver and furniture, is aimed at enthusiasts with a general appreciation of fine art who would like to increase their knowledge. The course runs over nine weeks and takes the form of an illustrated two-hour lecture given by experts from the James Adam sales rooms and Douglas Bennett & Associates. Topics under discussion will include Queen Anne, Georgian and Victorian furniture, the history of Irish silver and the history of Irish art from the mid-18th century to the present day.

The fee for the course is £150.

The Institute also runs an introductory fine arts appreciation course which is booked out for the current session. However, reservations are being taken for the next course which begins in September. For further information contact Vivienne McSherry at (01) 6611794.
