A school closed down and 1,000 students took to the streets in Sri Lanka to demand police action against a famous cricketer. Former Sri Lankan captain Arjuna Ranatunga is accused of beating up children who went into his garden to retrieve a cricket ball.

The students involved, aged 14 to 16, alleged that Ranatunga and some of his staff beat up three boys who had scaled a perimeter wall in search of a ball that had been hit into the garden. According to the students, Ranatunga and his security staff then went to their school and beat up three more students.
