Former WorldCom chief executive, Mr Bernie Ebbers, turned himself in to federal authorities in New York.

Former WorldCom chief executive, Mr Bernie Ebbers, turned himself in to federal authorities in New York.

Mr Ebbers is charged  with accounting fraud that led to the largest bankruptcy in US history.      Mr Ebbers' arrival at the offices of the FBI in New York followed US Attorney General Mr John Ashcroft's announcement  yesterday of criminal charges against him for fraud, conspiracy and making false statements in connection with WorldCom's collapse.

Telephone company WorldCom, now known as MCI, filed for bankrutpcy in 2002 amid an $11 billion accounting scandal.
