William Gallas did not travel due to an injury while Emmanuel Petit was also ruled out as he continues his comeback from a hernia operation and blood poisoning.
Boudewijn Zenden and Mario Stanic were also left behind due to minor knocks.
New signings Juan Sebastian Veron and Joe Cole are included in the squad.
