A Dublin man has been jailed for life at the Central Criminal Court for murdering his mother two years ago.

Moses O'Connor (26), of Castlebyrne Park, Blackrock, Co Dublin, pleaded guilty to the murder of Mrs Regina O'Connor at the same address between November 23rd and 26th 2005.

The Central Criminal Court heard that Mrs O'Connor (46) suffered stab wounds to her back, neck and arm; that her larynx was fractured; and that ten of her ribs were broken.

Det Insp Martin Cummins told the court that O'Connor, who has 26 previous convictions, was "one of the most disturbed people" he had ever seen in Garda custody.

The garda said that O'Connor's relationship with his mother had "totally broken down". He had been living rough for some time before returning to live with her.

Before her murder, Mrs O'Connor had made a will in which it was stated that her son would receive most of her money when he turned 25 but under the strict conditions that he was drug-free.
