A 20-year-old man appeared at Dublin District Court yesterday charged with violent disorder in connection with the death of Mr Brian Murphy.

Mr Murphy (18), from Clonskeagh, Dublin, died after a fracas outside a hotel night-club in the city last August.

Mr Michael Hussey, of Lansdowne Park, Dublin, was remanded on bail to appear at the District Court again in January.

During Mr Hussey's brief appearance in court yesterday evidence was given that he was a friend of Mr Murphy and had gone to his aid during a confrontation.

The court was told that the two men had been at an end-of-summer disco at Club Anabel in the Burlington Hotel.

A violent confrontation occurred outside the disco later in the night during which punches were thrown.

Mr Hussey's solicitor, Mr Michael Stein, said that his client had gone to the aid of his friend outside the disco. Mr Hussey's actions had nothing, "good, bad or indifferent", to do with the events which led to Brian Murphy's death.

Four other men are facing more serious charges of manslaughter and violent disorder in connection with the death of Mr Murphy.

Mr Stein said that the offence his client was charged with was a less serious one of the type which would normally be dealt with by the District Court.

The judge agreed to set a trial date for Dublin District Court on January 17th next. Mr Hussey was remanded on bail until then.

Six hundred people who had been in Club Anabel on the night of the incident were questioned by the team of gardai who investigated the death of Mr Murphy.
