Druids pray for peace on Hill of Tara

THE ArchDruid of Tara and Ireland denounced the killing in Lurgan last week of two RUC officers

THE ArchDruid of Tara and Ireland denounced the killing in Lurgan last week of two RUC officers. Mr Michael McGrath was officiating at the annual summer solstice ceremony held on the Hill of Tara, Co Meath, by the Druids.

He said the Druids wanted peace in Ireland and, while they did not have any influence on the peace process, they deplored what happened at Lurgan.

Some 150 Druids from Ireland and the UK attended this year's ceremony, during which they gathered in a large circle around the "Lia Fail" or "stone of destiny" on the hill and prayed.

A special and "powerful ancient Irish Druidic crystal working" also took place on the hill, during which the Druids worked on a large rock crystal to emit white energies. Mr McGrath said "this should ensure a soft winter and a good harvest".

"The power of the charged Druid crystal will also be used for healing people, for peace, for healing the common wound and the reenchantment of everyday life," said Mr McGrath.

This was the fourth successive year that the Druids have gathered at Tara to mark the summer solstice. The ceremonies were restarted in 1993 after a gap of about 15 centuries.
