London - A Liberal Democrat peer, Baroness Nicholson, yesterday repeated her concern that funds raised by Jeffrey Archer for Iraqi Kurds did not reach the refugees, as Scotland Yard launched an inquiry into the claims, writes Rachel Donnelly.

Baroness Nicholson wrote to Scotland Yard this week to urge police to investigate the claims following Archer's conviction for perjury and perverting the course of justice.

Confirming its decision to begin an inquiry into the money Archer claimed had been raised for the Iraqi Kurds, Scotland Yard said a decision on future action would be made at a later date.

Doubts have long been raised about the funds and Iraqi Kurds claim they received little. Archer claims to have personally contributed to the foundation, Simple Truth.
