The condition of 14-year-old girl who was found unconscious beside the body of her friend in Co Donegal has been described as stable.

According to a spokesman for the gardaí, the girl is still in intensive care, but is in a stable condition at Letterkenny General Hospital.

Gardaí have also ruled out foul play in the death of her 13-year-old friend, who was found beside her in a field near Ballindrait, Lifford.

Post-mortem and toxicology results to establish the exact cause of death will not be released until the coroner’s inquiry.

Gardaí also refused to comment on reports that a quantity of morphine tablets were found near the scene.
