Doherty reaches last 16 in Thailand

Doherty, the defending champion and top seed, won the last five frames on his way to a 5-3 victory over Joe Perry.

Dave Harold completed a 5-1 victory over veteran Steve Davis and will play Doherty in the next round.

Earlier, Jimmy White and former world champion John Higgins both defied injury to book places in the last 16.

White completed a 5-2 victory over Stuart Bingham 5-2 while Higgins defeated Michael Holt 5-1.

Both White and Higgins have been struggling with back injuries.

Joe Swail needed only 76 minutes to whitewash Hong Kong’s Marco Fu 5-0 while Quinten Hann pulled off a 5-1 victory over Scotland's Graeme Dott.
