A diver died last night after getting into difficulty off the west Cork coast.
He was one of six people who were diving from a vessel, The Sundance, near The Stags rocks off Toe Head when the alarm was raised shortly before 9 p.m.
A Marine Rescue helicopter airlifted the man, aged about 40, to Cork University Hospital, where he was declared dead on admission.
In a separate incident, the Courtmacsherry lifeboat was sent to assist nine people on board a yacht which ran aground off the Old Head of Kinsale. A Marine Rescue spokesman said the nine were not considered to be in danger and were being taken ashore.
