WASHINGTON - Lawyers for President Clinton yesterday appealed to the Supreme Court in an attempt to delay the sexual harassment case against him by former Arkansas state employee Ms Paula Jones until after he leaves office.

They argued that litigation of a private civil damages lawsuit must be deferred until the President leaves office "in all but the most exceptional cases."
