Man shot in chest and beaten during Donegal raid

Gang burst into victim’s home in St Johnston and attacked him

A man was shot in the chest and beaten after a gang of masked men burst into his home in Co Donegal.

The man was shot at close range when the raiders burst into his home on the Main Street in St Johnston.

The man, who is in his 40s, was beaten with bats and was shot with what is believed to have been a pellet gun.

The incident happened on Saturday evening just after 5pm.

The man was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital but his injuries are not understood to be life-threatening.

A Garda spokesman said they are trying to establish a motive for the attack.

They said the gang fled empty-handed.

The victim of the attack is well-known in the local area.

The area was cordoned off on Saturday and a full technical examination was carried out at the scene of the attack yesterday.
