Man arrested over alleged sexual assault in Tralee

Man with special needs attacked during Rose festival in Kerry

Gardai in Tralee, Co Kerry have arrested a man in his 40s in connection with an allegation of sexual assault on a man with special needs.

Late last Thursday night, or early Friday morning, a man with special needs is alleged to have been assaulted by another man in the Clash area of Tralee town. He was later brought to hospital Cork to be examined at a sexual assault treatment unit.

The man had earlier left a public house in Castle Street, Tralee, and a large crowd was gathering in the town at the time for the annual Rose festival.

CCTV footage was being examined for clues.

A man in his 40s was arrested yesterday afternoon and is being held at Tralee Garda station in connection with the alleged incident.

Gardaí are asking anyone with information to contact Tralee station on 066-7102300.

Meanwhile, a man has been arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault last week on a woman in the Square, Killorglin, during Puck Fair.

He has been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
