Man (20) arrested over Athy armed shop robbery

A 20-year-old man has been arrested by gardai in connection with an armed robbery at a shop in Athy, Co Kildare on Friday night.

They recovered an imitation firearm and a sum of money.

Gardai said a man entered the shop in the Dunbrin area at about 4pm. He threatened staff and left the scene with some cash. They said no one was injured during the incident.

Gardai from Athy and other local units along with the Garda air support unit arrested a 20-year-old man a short time after the incident. He is being held at Newbridge Garda station.

Gardai are continuing their investigations.
