Bank official who stole €61,000 requests probation and psychiatric reports

Charges relate to theft from client accounts at Tuam branch

A 59-year-old bank official pleaded guilty yesterday to the theft of more than €61,000 from 14 client accounts at a branch of Allied Irish Banks, in Tuam, Co Galway.

Sheila McLoughlin, from Cullane, Claremorris, Co Mayo, pleaded guilty before Galway Circuit Criminal Court to 24 charges of theft from client accounts between July 2010-November 2012.

Defence barrister Deirdre Browne asked for probation and psychiatric reports to be prepared on her client prior to sentence.

Judge Rory McCabe directed the preparation of both reports and remanded the accused on continuing bail to appear again on February 24th for sentence.
